The weather report predicted rain for today. Tim and I took our chances and ventured outside for a little road trip to the Columbia River Gorge despite the wet forecast. We’ve visited this area so many times (look here, here, here, and here) that it almost feels like an extension of our apartment. When family and friends are in town, the Columbia River Gorge is guaranteed to impress. It goes without question that bringing along a camera is mandatory. The gorge is most known for the many (many, many, many) waterfalls that are accessible by short hikes or by pulling your car into a small lot and walking 20 feet to an open view of cascading water.
My favorite part about the gorge is the lingering clouds and fog that weave around the hills and trees, which we definitely witnessed this afternoon.
And since I mentioned waterfalls:
Latourell Falls
Bridal Veil Falls
Multnomah Falls (taken last year during the first week of January)
We stopped at several other waterfalls as well, but I didn’t photograph them all. We lucked out with the weather: it didn’t start raining until we were back in the car and headed for home!

Hi Amy and Tim,
I love your blog and you photos are exceptional. I want to paint one of them if I ever get back to painting. I am off to Florida for the winter in a couple of weeks and will stop to see Liz. Happy early birthday to you Tim.
love,
Paula
Hi Paula! Thanks for the kind words. I hope you enjoy your time in Florida :)
Wow, your pictures are so amazing!
Thank you. Your pictures are amazing too!
Thank you for sharing your outdoor excursions. They are breathtakingly beautiful.
A couple of days ago, I was talking with Celine about the amazing brownies I won from you last Christmas. They remain the best brownies I’ve ever had. Thank you again.
So happy to hear that you enjoyed those brownies, Tami! I am writing a cookzine right now and that recipe will be included!
Your photos are so lovely and your outings so inspiring. Even though the landscape here in NY is not at beautiful as this, you are influencing me to get out and explore more; thank you!
Thank you! Exploration is essential! I bet NY is full of opportunities :)
Beautiful photos, we were at Multnomah Falls last year when everything was frozen too, it was so gorgeous.
I am hoping that the gorge gets some wintery beauty this year too!
We always stop at the Columbia River Gorge on our trips between Washington and Wisconsin, and it’s so gorgeous. It’s only a brief stop for us, not a hiking trip, but I see it’s a trip I have to look into. What a fantastic spot!
Definitely try some of the gorge hikes next time you visit! They are usually pretty crowded, but if you go in the middle of the week (and not during peak season) it’s much better :)
Your photos are so beautiful! My husband recognized Multnomah Falls right away.
