W.I.P. Wednesday: Keeping Crafty

Unfortunately, I don’t  have a completed project to share this week. I am still knitting the wormy/snake I posted about last month. I have made several new cards, sewn up some reusable bulk food bags, and spent quite a bit of time thinking about what to do with this fabric:

I absolutely love owls and this fabric is covered with colorful, sassy owls! My sister gave this to me for a birthday gift, and I can’t figure out what to make. Suggestions? I think there is a yard of fabric, but I have not measured to be sure.

And, since I can’t share my creations, here is a photo of a turtle my nephew made. I received this for my birthday as well, and I absolutely love it!

Too cute, right?!!!!

I also recently purchased a new book from Herbivore called Make Your Place. This book is full of recipes and tips for creating your own eco-friendly health and first aid items, cleaning and body care products, and even some useful gardening tips. There is so much great information packed into this little book! It will lead you toward living a much more sustainable, simple life without relying on toxic commercialized consumer products. Hooray for that!

You should probably get yourself a copy.

  1. I LOVE that fabric! It is so funky and cute at the same time. What to do…that is the question. I’m sure you’ll make something adorable with it, but I doubt it will rival that turtle which is just perfect. Sorry.

That book sounds really cool, kind a like you, come to think of it!

  2. I can’t decide what’s cuter, the owl fabric or the subtitle “sustainable nesting skills”… seriously, so great! And the turtle! I hope my soon-to-be nephew whips one of those up for me someday!

  3. that fabric is totally cute! sassiness! maybe you could make a little lined and zippered bag with it? for toiletries or change or just whatever you like to keep in pouches? love the turtle. and what a cool sounding book!

  4. you sound like you’re working on a lot of crafty awesomeness, Amy! oh yeah – and i showed your video to dan & he thought it rocked, too! superw00t! i can’t wait to see your wormy/snake dude all completed. he’s so silly ‘n cute – i love him!

your nephew is one talented little guy! and the sassy owls are the BEST! hmmm – is just 1 yard too little to make a pair of p.j. bottoms? could you make a fun tote/bag? i’ll think on it some more and get back with you! sometimes i’m not so creative and it takes me a little bit to brainstorm up a fun idea…

the “make your place” book sounds like something i need to get! thanks for the suggestion! i’m all about be’n more sustainable, fo ‘sho!

  5. I would make pillows out of it (because it’s easy and I have no skills) and dream of owls all night long. have I ever told you the story about the burrowing owl?

  6. Hi! I just found you through WIP! I love those cards and have added that book to my wishlist! I can’t wait to see what you do with that fabric!

  7. i thought given the time you spend in your kitchen, a set of potholders would be nice, with machine quilting! just make sure your lining is anti flammable…..
