Snow Bug Buddy

I made a new friend over the past weekend, but he lives in the snow. What?! Tim and I went snowshoeing in Washington state on Saturday and while eating our lunch we noticed all of these super tiny buggies cruising around on the surface of the snow. And by tiny, I mean microscopic! The macro feature on my camera allowed for a semi-decent photo of one of the buggies. Check him out!

Cute as heck, right? I wonder how they survive, what they eat, how they keep warm? In all of our snow adventures, we’ve never noticed these bugs before… Maybe it’s a sign of who will control the future of our planet?

Our lunch consisted of sandwiches filled with Tofu Kale Spread (a test recipe), and a bunch of dried fruits Tim and I dehydrated! We also made our own tofu jerky (super yummy!!!!), but I didn’t get a picture because we I ate it up too fast. Anyway, in the photo below you will see dried kiwi, pear, apple, and banana.

  1. what a cute little bugaboo! also, your dehydrated fruit (kiwi!? awesome!) has me desperate for a dehydrator. and the test recipes look sooooo yummy! graham crackers and butternut biscuits especially. i cannot wait to get that book. you’re so lucky to be testing for it!

  2. your testers look wonderful! they’re picture perfect!

that’s one cute little fella! bugs & snow – i had no idea the combination was possible. our friend has this theory that if bugs wanted to they could totally take over the world. they’re ever evolving, can fly, swim & stick to all kinds of things, and there’s a lot more of them than us! eek! i hear ya on who might be in control in the future! craziness!

i would have never thought to dry out pears or kiwis – they look wonderful! and making your own tofu jerky sounds so delicious. how do you do that?! spice it up and dehydrate until “done”? how thin does one slice it? we loooove the tofu jerky, but the fact that it’s overly processed and in plastic packaging makes us sadfaced so i won’t buy it anymore. i think we need to purchase another dehydrator to replace the one we broke in the move so we can make some dried goodies, too. happyface!

  3. I’ve never seen snow bugs either. How strange! And your dried kiwi is making my mouth water. I’m doing all raw today and I could go for that right now. Actually, I could go for any of the yummy stuff on your post (but some would be against today’s rules!).

  4. Poor little guy…do you think he made a wrong turn somehwere? He must be hungry.
Speaking of hungry…I’m drooling over your goodness! I can’t wait to try those crackers – yours turned out so well!
